Instructors

Imania Dentry

A celebrated performing and teaching artist from Chicago, Imania Detry has dedicated over 20 years to preserving African dance and culture through her work with Muntu Dance Theatre and Ayodele Drum and Dance. Known for her collaborations with artists like Chance the Rapper, she combines traditional African dance with contemporary styles in her teaching and performances.

Robin Gee

Robin Gee, a Professor of Dance at UNC Greensboro, integrates African, Caribbean, and modern dance forms. With an MFA from Sarah Lawrence College, her career spans performances with New York dance companies and choreography for noted theatrical productions. Gee is also the founder of the Greensboro Dance Film Festival, enhancing her role as a cultural ambassador in the dance world.

Regina Charly-Beth

Based in Chicago, Regina Perry-Carr is a respected dancer, choreographer, and educator with over 30 years in West African dance. The former Artistic Director of Muntu Dance Theatre and founder of a nonprofit arts organization, she is known for her work in community engagement and elevating African dance.

Jeffrey Page

Jeffrey Page combines academic and ethnological studies in African dance forms, enhancing his choreography with insights gained across West Africa. An award-winning Broadway director and educator at Harvard and Juilliard, Jeffrey is also the Founder and CEO of Movin’ Legacy, a nonprofit organization focused on preserving and evolving dance.

Drummers

Di Andree Duke

Di Andree Duke, a Baltimore native, has immersed himself in West African music, studying under prominent musicians and traveling annually to Mali. He is proficient in several instruments, including Djembe and Ngoni, and is committed to using music to unite communities.

Brytiece Wallace

A Philadelphia native, Brytiece Wallace has deepened his mastery of West African music through collaborations with numerous artists and groups. As a musical director for the Kulumele Dance Ensemble, he plays a pivotal role in the Philadelphia arts community.

Mamadou Guisse

From Senegal, Mamadou Guisse began his drumming career at a young age under his grandmother’s guidance, acquiring deep knowledge in the traditional arts of drum making and repair. He is the Musical Director for the Maimouna Keita West African Dance Company.

Alioune Faye

A master drummer from Senegal, Alioune Faye was born into a family of celebrated musicians. Excelling in both Sabar and Djembe drumming, he has performed internationally with renowned artists across various music genres.

Terrell Johnson

Terrell Johnson, from Philadelphia, began his Djembe journey at three and has performed professionally since fourteen. He blends his musical career with teaching and abstract art, contributing significantly to the local arts scene.

Najja Codrington

Rooted deeply in African and African-Caribbean cultures, Najja Codrington has extensively studied and performed various African music and dance forms. He is a passionate mentor for youth in the cultural arts and enhances his community involvement through multiple groups.

Jumoke Ajanku

Jumoke Ajanku’s studies in West Africa profoundly influenced him. He creates music that weaves traditional rhythms with modern influences. As a performer and educator, he extends his artistic reach globally, promoting creativity through The Ajanku Brothers.

King Salim Ajanku

King Salim Ajanku has crafted a musical style that marries traditional West African rhythms with global sounds. Studying under renowned masters, he also focuses on arts education, developing innovative curricula integrating creative expression with learning.
